Microsoft SongSmith… Let the Hilarity Begin

Oh So Random, Tunes and Grooves No Comments

Microsoft Song SmithI have to hand it to Microsoft… if this is a supposed to be a serious tool (the promo seems to sell it as such) then they should just throw in the towel now before they tarnish their image anymore. The idea behind SongSmith is that you sing the melody and it will auto-generate the backing music… I’m sure you can already see where this is going. Many people have run the lyric tracks from popular songs through it with funny results. I’ll let you find the actual SongSmith demo video on YouTube yourself… I’m posting my favorite SongSmith results below.

Video: Charlie Hunter - Recess

Tunes and Grooves No Comments

I found my Charlie Hunter CD recently and I’ve been enjoying listening to him again. He’s an amazing musician apart from the fact that he plays the bass and guitar simultaneously. YouTube didn’t exist when I first got into him, and it’s nice now to be able to watch him play. Enjoy!

Stanley Clarke: Upright Bass Solo

Tunes and Grooves No Comments

I’ve been meaning to post this video for awhile (been busy). Stanley Clarke is one of the most amazing bass players I’ve seen. He really explores the instrument and is not afraid to push it to new sounds. This upright bass solo is just awesome!

Rodrigo and Gabriela playing Metallica ‘Orion’

Tunes and Grooves No Comments

Okay, I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile. These guys are amazing… they play both guitar parts, the bass part, and percussion all using only 2 acoustic guitars. Thanks for the link Ray!

Remember comedian Jim Breuer? He did AC\DC singing the “Hokey Pokey”. Well, here is is again impersonating Metallica singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It”… with the band members in the audience.

I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s definitely worth watching if you’re into serious guitar work.
